Business licenses issued in Hoonah decreased by 23.1% in Q1

Business licenses issued in Hoonah during the first quarter of 2026 decreased by 23.1 percent from the same quarter the previous year, according to Alaska’s Department of Commerce.

There were 10 licenses issued in total in Hoonah during the quarter.

More than 99% of Alaska’s businesses are considered small, with more than 52% of Alaska’s employees working for a small business, according to the U.S Small Business Administration.

A study by Civic Economics found $100 spent at a locally-owned business, puts $68 back into the local economy while the total is just $43 for non-local businesses.
