Business licenses issued in Edna Bay during the first quarter of 2026 increased by 200 percent over the same quarter the previous year, according to Alaska’s Department of Commerce.

There were three licenses issued in total in Edna Bay during the quarter.

More than 99% of Alaska’s businesses are considered small, with more than 52% of Alaska’s employees working for a small business, according to the U.S Small Business Administration.

A study by Civic Economics found $100 spent at a locally-owned business, puts $68 back into the local economy while the total is just $43 for non-local businesses.
