Business licenses issued in Bethel increased by 20% in Q1

Business licenses issued in Bethel during the first quarter of 2026 increased by 20 percent over the same quarter the previous year, according to Alaska’s Department of Commerce.

There were 12 licenses issued in total in Bethel during the quarter.

More than 99% of Alaska’s businesses are considered small, with more than 52% of Alaska’s employees working for a small business, according to the U.S Small Business Administration.

A study by Civic Economics found $100 spent at a locally-owned business, puts $68 back into the local economy while the total is just $43 for non-local businesses.
