Sterling had 7 fewer business licenses issued in May from previous month

Business licenses issued in Sterling during May decreased by 41.2% from the previous month, according to Alaska’s Department of Commerce.

There were 10 licenses issued in total in Sterling during May.

More than 99.8% of Alaska’s businesses are considered small, with more than 52% of Alaska’s employees working for a small business, according to the U.S Small Business Administration.

A study by Civic Economics found $100 spent at a locally-owned business, puts $68 back into the local economy while the total is just $43 for non-local businesses.
