2.1% of Springfield Public Day Middle School students met or exceeded math MCAS expectations in 2023-24 school year

Of the 48 students of Springfield Public Day Middle School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, one met the testing standard (2.1%), while none exceeded expectations, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject grew by 2.1% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Springfield Public Schools District, which Springfield Public Day Middle School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 16.5% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 6.3% of Springfield Public Day Middle School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 9.1% were considered proficient in science.

At the time, 464,292 students took the math test in Massachusetts, with 195,185 students passing (42%) — unchanged from the year before.

According to a 2025 analysis from WalletHub, Massachusetts education system was considered the best in the nation, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
