Of the 287 students of Garfield Elementary School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, 89 met the testing standard (31%), while 12 exceeded expectations (4.2%), according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject dropped by 9.7% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Revere Public Schools District, which Garfield Elementary School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 26.2% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 20.8% of Garfield Elementary School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 21.5% were considered proficient in science.

At the time, 464,292 students took the math test in Massachusetts, with 195,185 students passing (42%) — unchanged from the year before.
