Did Norwood High School students succeed or flounder in their 2023-24 math tests?

Of the 202 students of Norwood High School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, 98 met the testing standard (48.5%), while 13 exceeded expectations (6.4%), according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject grew by 8.6% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Norwood Public Schools District, which Norwood High School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 42.2% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 60.7% of Norwood High School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 47.8% were considered proficient in science.

At the time, 464,292 students took the math test in Massachusetts, with 195,185 students passing (42%) — unchanged from the year before.

According to a 2025 analysis from WalletHub, Massachusetts education system was considered the best in the nation, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
