Did Newton South High School students succeed or flounder in their 2023-24 math tests?

Of the 442 students of Newton South High School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, 180 met the testing standard (40.7%), while 196 exceeded expectations (44.3%), according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject dropped by 1.1% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Newton Public Schools District, which Newton South High School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 68.9% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 85.6% of Newton South High School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 87% were considered proficient in science.
