Did Medford High School students succeed or flounder in their 2023-24 math tests?

Of the 287 students of Medford High School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, 87 met the testing standard (30.3%), while 30 exceeded expectations (10.5%), according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject grew by 0.6% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Medford Public Schools District, which Medford High School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 35.5% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 54.9% of Medford High School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 52.8% were considered proficient in science.

At the time, 464,292 students took the math test in Massachusetts, with 195,185 students passing (42%) — unchanged from the year before.

Massachusetts spends more money on K-12 education per pupil than most other states, ranking fifth in the nation, according to a 2025 report. The state allocates over $24,000 per pupil, totaling $22.5 billion annually.
