16.5% of Mason Elementary School students met or exceeded math MCAS expectations in 2023-24 school year

Of the 85 students of Mason Elementary School who took part in the math portion of the MCAS in the 2023-24 school year, 13 met the testing standard (15.3%), while one exceeded expectations (1.2%), according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The students' overall success rate in the subject grew by 3.7% in the 2023-24 school year from the previous school year.

Boston Public Schools District, which Mason Elementary School is part of, reached an average proficiency rate of 28.1% in math during the 2023-24 school year.

Meanwhile, 12.9% of Mason Elementary School students hit the ELA benchmarks, and 20% were considered proficient in science.

At the time, 464,292 students took the math test in Massachusetts, with 195,185 students passing (42%) — unchanged from the year before.

According to a 2025 analysis from WalletHub, Massachusetts education system was considered the best in the nation, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
